(Lake District, Cumbria, England, UK)

Coniston pictureAll around the Lake District are a selection of different shops, ranging from small local stores to large, modern indoor shopping centres. Many of the shops in the Lake District sell outdoor clothing and hiking equipment, while those shopping for souvenirs will find more than a few Beatrix Potter cuddly toys in local gift shops around Windermere, such as Peter Rabbit and Jemima Puddle-Duck.

Shopping clusters in the Lake District include the K Village in Kendal, where shoes, jewellery, crystal and clothing are is good supply. There are also a handful of eateries at the K Village, should you need to take a break and enjoy a quick snack.

Where to Shop

Also in Kendal is the Westmorland Shopping Centre, which has become a major attraction in South Cumbria and draws shoppers from all around this part of the Lake District and beyond. Connecting Kendal's Market Place and Stricklandgate areas, the Westmorland complex is fairly modern and commercial in style, with big name stores such as Argos, Dixons and Principles, as well as an outlet of Famous Army Stores.

Nearby and still in Kendal is the Blackhall Yard Shopping Centre, which stands off Stricklandgate and features more than its fair share of boutiques, cafes and wine bars. Those based in the Penrith area of the Lake District should check out the Wetheriggs Country Pottery at Clifton Dykes, where handmade ceramics, handicrafts and paintings await.
